This map is both predictable and surprising. More surprising than anything though.

Happy STI Awareness Month!

MTV is on the bandwagon with GYT (Get Yourself Tested). And to encourage safety being first, it's holding a sweepstakes. If you search for the nearest testing center near you and vow to get tested, you will be entered to win 2 tickets to their 2011 Movie Awards. It's also chock full of very important and useful and essential information. In fact, the site is huge. I don't jive with MTV too hard but they are racking up some serious brownie points right now. So with that...

GET TESTED!!!

Hell, do it for fun. Duh, it's your sex life.

Tiny Brownie Points (and I mean TINY): Facebook

via The Daily Helmsman
by Erica Horton

Usually, when Facebook makes a major change to its site, the social media giant's 500 million users first complain and then adjust.

Recent changes to Facebook's relationship options may not be as noticeable as a change to profile layout, but they've left many members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community feeling appreciative and included.

Facebook recently added "in a civil union" and "in a domestic partnership" to its relationship status choices.

OkCupid Lovin Us Gays

It's true that in terms of queer women, OkCupid has accrued quite a following. This is also true for queer women of color (or maybe I just live in Atlanta). And now, Autostraddle just informed me there's more to be excited about:

1) Mad lesbos are knee-deep in OKC, meaning it's perfectly normal that I am too.

2) Us gays can now hide our profiles from the straights. I find this feature particularly wonderful for the ladies. I can't tell you how many straight dudes have viewed my profile. That's sketch... you know... being that it's a dating site and I don't date dudes.

Happy dating!

Girlz Party

Bored? Go to Girlz Party and find something to do.

Already got something (fun) to do? Then, go to Girlz Party and let people know what's good.

And we'll continue this cycle for the good of all lesbian-kind.

Where my ladies at?

It's a conundrum: where do queer women of color go? How do you find them?! And then I thought about it... and I'm one of those queer women of color who's hard to find. I don't particularly like going to the club. In true lesbian fashion, I prefer to have beers with the girls and in true southern-black fashion, there's nothing more satisfying to me than a shindig. I'm not an easy person to get to know, either. This lead me to a few conclusions:

1) LGBTQ ladies of color are hard to find because many of us just don't like to make "our business" known.

2) We might not be in the club because we just straight up don't club! I know quite a few queer women of color who, frankly, don't like to club. It's a chore, a tiresome sustenance to our sex lives.

3) You have to know people to know where we go. Networking is essential because where to go might not be a public place but rather, a residence or fleeting private event.

It's a sad truth to live with but the only solution to the problem I can offer is to meet people. Constantly meet people! And do your damnedest to not fall prey to small community syndrome. Keep it fresh, ladies, keep it fresh! Nothing sucks more than becoming best friends with your only options...
